I can' t help but comment on this after reading Pyramus and Thisbe. To me this is not the first time that heroes are immortalized in trees. I remember coming across a tale about an old couple who were rewarded by the gods by being turned into trees on the left and right of the entrance to the temple. I wonder what the tree holds for the Greeks. I wonder if it has something to do with the perceived longevity normally attached to trees or even the fact maybe that they can grow on such hostile ground.
